Review: Irene Michaels in NYC @ Chelsea Table & Stage 9/22/23
One of the more impressive cabaret shows was presented by singer/songwriter, Irene Michaels at the new, trending hotspot Chelsea Table and Stage on September 22, 2023. The 78 year old beauty queen shared a night of classic nostalgia, as well as intimate and humorous antidotes with a notable audience including Desmond Child, who is one of the biggest songwriters on the planet today.
She was wearing a dazzling black costume, but that wasn’t the only thing that was sparkling. Her charisma and exuberant personality charmed the audience, as well as her song presentation. Her stories were empowering and proof that youth is not a time of life, but rather a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks and red lips, but rather a matter of the will, and quality of the imagination.
Her setlist included songs such as “A Lot of Living to Do”, Embraceable You”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, “One For My Baby”, “Look of Love”, “Coming Back as a Man”, “Mr. Bojangles”, and her climax was her new hit single “What the World Needs Now is Love”, made famous by the iconic singer Jackie DeShannon, and written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach.
Aside from performing, the Chicago born entertainer has recently began to focus her talent on recording house music on the legendary record label Trax. Her song “I Like Rain” has earned her a Josie Awards nomination. The Josie awards will take place in Nashville on October 22, 2023, and is considered the biggest independent music award on the planet.
Irene’s confidence on stage was another majestic asset of her showcase. She was smooth on stage, told her stories well, and also chose an amazing band to back her. I have a feeling that Irene Michaels will be performing all over the country and internationally in no time at all.
